Weekly Capstone Entry 1
Ahh my Capstone project process has officially begun! I am unbelievably scared and excited to see what project topics I come up with. I will be posting weekly updates on how my capstone project is coming along so stay tuned for all of the hectic-ness! My teacher for the first week gave us a few prompts that we could include in our first post so I answered them here:
- What past school project have you enjoyed doing? Why?
A past school project I’ve enjoyed doing would be a photography book. We were asked to create a book about anything, but make it our own. I chose to do mine based off of multiplicity photography and I had a lot of fun with it. I liked being in control of the page size, orientation, type of photos, and the cover. I also enjoyed being able to get outside and take the photos.
- What past school projects have you not enjoyed doing? Why?
A project I did not enjoy doing would be anything motion related. I think the idea of motion project is super neat but for me, it is time consuming and frustrating. One year in our motion class, we were asked to make a title sequence based off of an infographic we had created. It took me so long and I didn’t know how to do half the things I needed to know. In the end, it turned out fine but definitely not my level of expertise.
- What do you like the most about communication design? Why?
I like the freedom that comes with this major. I feel like I am able to explore so many types of graphic design that I’m interested in. Being able to communicate an idea into a reality (physical or digital) is such a cool concept. And seeing my work in the real world makes me feel like I am accomplishing something great with my life. I also in general just love being able to spread my active creativity into my everyday life and I love sharing my designs with others in order to make a difference.
- What’s your dream project? Why?
A dream project for me would be being able to create an entire packaging design for a specific product. None of my co-ops or classes have allowed me to pursue this project but I hope to some day. Another dream project would be designing a real publication. I am always told that I am talented at layouts in terms of print design. I would love to create a fun publication that might include neat illustrations as well as helpful information in a fun graphic style.
- Static? Kinetic? Interactive? All of the above?
If I had to chose, I would probably go with static. I love being able to look at something, whatever it may be, for a long period of time and really take in the beauty of it. Not all things need to be kinetic or interactive for someone to find it really intriguing to look at and comprehend.
- What scares you the most about capstone?
One thing that scares me the most about capstone is choosing a topic. I am so scared of choosing a topic that I end up getting tired of and will want to quit. I’m also worried about not being able to solve the potential problem I come up with or will not finish in time. Also not having enough time or information or hitting all of the important design steps as I go along.
- What excites you the most about capstone?
I am most excited to create something that will allow me to hopefully get jobs in the future. I want my capstone to be something different than what I already have in my portfolio and really stand out to future employers. I also want to create something that is memorable and useful and will hopefully give me a better understanding of something I already find interesting.
