During this week, we were asked to share our research in progress with a partner during class. We discussed any questions we had, the experts we planned on talking to, insights from interviews, and any secondary resources we’ve gathered. In addition to that, we were also required to submit a revised project brief where we dived deeper into our topics and wrote about why the topic matters to us, to others, and why it is important to solve. I feel that this assignment was a little difficult for me because I am not sure exactly what specific problem my houseplant guide is solving other than giving useful information to those who might not have it. I feel that maybe my book should be solving a higher problem but I’m not sure what that higher problem would be at the moment. Overall, I feel that I am gathering helpful secondary research that is allowing me to figure out what I specifically want to include in my houseplant book. I found that researching the historic background of houseplants and how it became a thing was very interesting and gave me good insights. Benchmarking current houseplant guides also was helpful in seeing how they categorized information and what visual style was used. I think this week was helpful because it forced me to gather information and analyze it, so I feel confident with where I’m at.
